Senior primary care, powered by relationships, has arrived in Hudson. Get to know the providers who are now welcoming new patients.
Hudson, we are so glad to be here.
Hopscotch Primary Care Hudson is one of our newer clinics across our Western North Carolina communities, and we want to take a moment to reintroduce ourselves. We built this clinic because we believe great healthcare should not require a long drive or a long wait. We believe your provider should know you by name, listen to your story, and walk alongside you through every step of your health.
That is what we mean when we say senior primary care, powered by relationships.
Today, we want you to meet the two providers leading care at our Hudson clinic: Cindy Bortz, DNP, FNP-C, and Mel Daly, MD. Different paths, different styles, the same belief: you deserve the time and attention to be truly heard.
Meet Cindy Bortz, DNP, FNP-C
Cindy spent years in some of the busiest parts of medicine before coming to primary care. She worked as a nurse in the emergency room and the intensive care unit, where she saw the same patients come back again and again for problems that started small and grew over time.
That experience is what drew her to primary care.
“If we don’t get people at the beginning of illness, instead of waiting until the end, we’re losing the battle with medical care. That’s why I chose primary care.”
At our Hudson clinic, Cindy focuses on getting ahead of common chronic conditions like COPD (a lung condition that makes it hard to breathe), diabetes, and heart failure. Her approach is steady, compassionate, and rooted in listening.
“A lot of medicine is focused on treating disease, and unfortunately that puts us behind. It becomes almost like a conveyor belt. We need to take the time to listen to the patient. We need to show interest in their life as a whole, because all of it affects their medical care.”
If you have been looking for a provider who will sit down, look you in the eye, and ask about more than just your prescription list, Cindy is the kind of provider you have been hoping to find.
Meet Mel Daly, MD
Mel’s path to Hudson started a long way from North Carolina. He was born and raised in Ireland, went to medical school in Dublin, and then trained in primary care at the University of Maryland. He went on to complete a fellowship in geriatric medicine (specialized care for older adults) and spent years on the faculty there before moving to Western North Carolina.
He chose primary care because he believes it is the foundation of the entire healthcare system.
“I really value the opportunity to develop a long-term relationship with the patient and their family. I get to care for the whole person, not just one illness at a time the way a specialist might.”
When asked why he joined Hopscotch, Mel pointed to the gap he saw in our region.
“Western North Carolina is very much in need of accessible healthcare. It has some of the highest rates of chronic illness in the state, the population is aging, and access to providers is limited. I was drawn to Hopscotch because the focus is on quality of care and on helping people feel better, not on how many patients you can fit into a day.”
Mel often describes the primary care provider as a quarterback for your care. He helps you make sense of appointments with specialists, keeps the bigger picture in view, and makes sure your goals stay at the center of every decision.
What Care Looks Like at Hudson
When you become a patient at our Hudson clinic, you can expect more time, more support, and more services close to home.
Here is some of what makes Hopscotch different:
- Longer appointments, so you never feel rushed
- Same-day visits when something urgent comes up
- On-site EKG testing for heart concerns
- Retinal eye exams right in the office for patients with diabetes
- A mobile mammogram unit coming to the clinic for screenings
- A full care team, including nurses and care coordinators, who follow up between visits
Mel sums it up well.
“Care needs to be provided by a village. We talk about every patient together before we see them, so we are ready and prepared. You spend your visit in front of the patient, not in front of a screen.”
Cindy agrees, and she sees it every day in how the Hudson team works together.
“It’s a great team and atmosphere. Everybody pitches in to patient care. Our LPNs, our medical assistants, our office staff, everyone is involved in caring for you.”
That is the Hopscotch difference. You’re not a chart number. You’re a neighbor.
