After her “amazing” experience in the office, she asked if we would be willing to establish care for her husband as well. Naturally, our team welcomed the opportunity and encouraged him to be seen while he was already in the office.
At first, the patient was resistant. He had not seen a provider in decades, expressing frustration by saying, “No one listens to me, so why waste my time?”
After some convincing from his wife, he limped into the office, barely able to walk. Our team immediately embraced him, giving him the time and space to voice his concerns, frustrations, and general distrust of medical care.
Understanding his reluctance, our provider focused on the issue most important to him—his knee pain. He was struggling to maintain his home’s curb-appeal due to limited mobility, and this deeply impacted his quality of life. A steroid injection was administered, and he was encouraged to return for a full examination sooner than later.

To the team’s amazement, the patient returned just two days later, walking without his cane and in good spirits. Not only did he want to express his gratitude, but he also sought treatment for an acute hand injury. Unfortunately, the injury was beyond our clinic’s scope, but our team quickly located a nearby urgent care to prevent an unnecessary emergency department visit—one of his biggest fears.
By the end of the day, the patient had received the necessary care. This single positive experience shifted his outlook on healthcare. Since that initial visit, he has willingly returned multiple times to manage his chronic health conditions. While age-related health issues persist, he and his family continue to lean on the Hopscotch team for support, guidance, and long-term planning for his well-being.
